This Coast-to-Coast Rail Journey Celebrates 150 Years of Canada

Two iconic Canadian hospitality companies are teaming up to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the confederation of Canada (Canada 150) in a grand manner.

Fairmont Hotels & Resorts and VIA Rail will be jointly celebrating Canada 150 with a 20-day, coast-to-coast luxury rail trip that celebrates Canadian heritage while exploring many of Canada’s top destinations and attractions.

The journey begins along the sparkling Pacific coast in Vancouver and crosses mountains, prairies, lakes and cosmopolitan centers before it culminates amidst the rolling green hills of Quebec.

Along the way, guests will enjoy stays at some of the most beloved Fairmont Hotels & Resorts’ in the country, many of which have celebrated histories dating back to when rail traveler helped blaze Canada’s history.

Participating properties include Fairmont Hotel Vancouver in Vancouver, Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge in Alberta, Fairmont Winnipeg in Winnipeg, Fairmont Royal York in Toronto, Fairmont Chateau Laurier in Ottawa, a choice between Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth (pending re-opening in June 2017) or Sofitel Montreal Golden Mile in Montreal (a sister brand to Fairmont) and Fairmont Le Château Frontenac in Quebec City.

Travelers can choose a pre-curated itinerary or develop their own 20-day itinerary so they can focus on the destinations and attractions that interest them most.

Whether they wish to spend extra time hiking through Stanley Park in Vancouver, delving into the history of human rights in Winnipeg, taking in the urban view from the top of the CN Tower in Toronto, standing in the spray of Niagara Falls, touring the National Art Gallery in Canada’s capital city of Ottawa or exploring the Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal, the itinerary can be tweaked to match each traveler’s interests.

Along the way, enjoy diverse and breathtaking Canadian landscapes, from the grand Canadian Rockies to the shores of Lake Ontario, from your private rail car.

The package starts from $9,990 (USD) per person and includes four nights in a private cabin on VIA Rail’s The Canadian train from Jasper to Winnipeg to Toronto, including three dinners, two lunches, and three breakfasts. From Toronto, daytime rail travel in business class will be provided between Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City.
