Every May, the Truckee River welcomes extreme whitewater athletes from around the world, as they show off their top spins, loops and McNasty’s during the Reno River Festival.
More than 30,000 spectators gather to attend this event, held under downtown Reno’s sparkling skyline. Last year’s event welcomed competitors from as far away as Canada, Switzerland and New Zealand.
Whitewater Rafting Events
The festival kicks off with a freestyle contest, open to all paddlers, who show off their best whitewater moves. Also featured is the Boatercross event, a type of kayaking sport that is loosely based upon snowboard racing challenges. Four paddlers compete, as they paddle around natural river obstacles, to win the top slot.
Also a crowd-pleaser is are the stand-up paddleboarding events. Held in Whitewater Park’s north channel, participants must complete a series of moves, buy levitra online india including avoiding obstacles, on their way to the finish line.
A custom-built slalom course is set up along the river’s south channel, where racers must navigate through slalom gates hanging from above.
More Reno River Festival Activities
The festival includes an outdoor expo, including a zip line across the Truckee River. The expo also includes a kids play area, a rock climbing wall, a bungee trampoline, an obstacle course and a giant rock slide. One of Northern Nevada’s largest events, the Reno River Festival also provides live entertainment, yoga in the park and food vendors from around the region.
