Lettuce, the dieter’s darling, gets its day in the sun every year at the Yuma Lettuce Days festival Salad, however, is just the first course at festival showcasing the diverse bounty of the area’s fertile river delta. The festival highlight is a series of ongoing cooking demonstrations, held in an outdoor kitchen, featuring an all-star lineup of local talent.
Visit with Local Growers
The event is big on local interaction and guests can meet and talk with area growers and shippers at the “Get your Ag Scoop” booth, sponsored by the Yuma Area Agriculture Council. For a more in-depth view, “Windshield” tours of Yuma agriculture areas, narrated by local growers, provide visitors with an first-person look at the area’s agricultural industry. Tour buses run every 1/2 hour, and frequently sell out, so advance purchase is recommended.
Chris “CJ” Jacobson of Bravo’s hit show Top Chef, and executive chef at Girasol Restaurant in Studio City, Calif. will present food demonstrations during the weekend.
